Sorry for the belated post, my internet was very spotty this weekend. Bill Schreitz found an adult Clay-colored Sparrow at Greenbury Pt. in Annapolis yesterday morning while birding with Stan Arnold and I. Bill first saw the bird perched on the top of a rose bush and got some nice photos. I saw the bird as well but by the time I got on it it had flushed to the ground amongst some goldenrods. I could see the bird had a completely pale, unmarked breast and a strong face pattern that immediately suggested Clay-colored but I really didn't see it that well and somehow convinced myself it was just another Chipping Sparrow. It wasn't until I saw Bill's photos (and a field guide) that I realized it was in fact a Clay-colored. He and I and Dan Haas tried to relocate the bird in the afternoon but could not. I went back this morning (Monday) before work to try to get a better look at it but could not relocate it. When we saw it, the bird was exclusively in the company of Song Sparrows. There were a lot of Song Sparrows around this morning (one Swamp) in the same area but the wind (and seemingly constant Sharpie sorties) were keeping the birds low and quiet, so it may still be around.

Bill's desciption of the location:
The bird was perched on the left of the paved Bobwhite Trail about 20 yards form the first bench (the one that faces north). It flew from the field on the right side of the path to the bush 10’ from the path. B

I should also mention if anyone goes to look for it, the entire brushy section of the Bobwhite trail should be checked and another place to check would be the opposite corner of the Nature Center parking lot adjacent to the compost facility. There was a perpetual sparrow flock there last night, but all I saw was Song. Considering it flushed from this direction it may have been with these guys or using the compost facility itself (which I do not believe is open to the public?).

Also of note was a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher along the west road about 100 yards in on the left hand side in the old orchard area. Had 4 imm and 1 adult White-crowned, a couple Field, a few White-throated, Kinglets and Yellow-rumps, Bluebirds, House Finches and that's about it. Several Sharpies flew over and I flushed a 3- or 4- year old Bald Eagle at close range over by the boat launching area.

Good Birding,

P.S. Bill had photos of the CCSP if interested.
