Lisa and I joined Paul Pisano and another birder this morning at East Potomac Park this morning shortly after sunrise.  It was kind of quiet, but we did have some nice birds.  A Merlin was perched serenely in a tree, regarding us with contemplation while occasionally making unsuccessful sorties off its treetop perch.  The other highlight was the landing of two American Pipits on the sidewalk and railing right at Hains Point, within 20-30 feet of us, for about 5 minutes or so.  This is the best view of pipits I have had in quite some time.  Paul will doubtless have something to add later.
Like Rick Sussman, Lisa and I saw a gray ghost.  However our sighting was in a county in that unnamed panhandle to the west, so I am not at liberty to disclose more.
