A sub- adult Golden Eagle was seen at the Cromwell Valley Park HawkWatch on Wednesday Nov. 3rd 2010, at 1:10 PM. Noteworthy also was the number of Red-shouldered Hawks observed, setting a new single day record of 49. This is of particular interest considering the numbers of RSH Hawks counted at other mid- atlantic watch sites the same day. Our numbers here in Baltimore County were higher by far than almost all other watch-sites which posted their sightings at hawkcount.org. The question of whether the "INTERSTATE 95" flight corridor is preferred by Red-shouldered Hawks over the mountainous or more coastal routes presents itself. Of course, the number of variables are many, which is part of what keeps hawk counting so interesting!! Academic questions aside, it is always a thrill to see a beautifully adorned Red-shouldered Hawk in migration, let alone dozens!!
