Note: I sent this to VA-Bird but thought it might be of interest to MD/DC
birders as well

Our group of 7, led by the indefatigable Jim Waggener, located not one but
two male Eurasian Widgeons in a mixed flock of ducks mid-way between the
mouth of Thompson Creek and Mason Neck State Park. The rest of the flock
included American Widgeon, Redheads, Ruddy Ducks, Ring-Necked Ducks and
Gadwall. All 7 of us had good views of the unmistakable males with their red
heads, orange blaze, white stripe and white patch on the side. According to
Jim, this is a first for the area.
Note: While we saw the birds from the Thompson Creek side this area is not
open to the public; however the birds should be visible from the area near
the visitor's center at Mason Neck SP.
