Reports of Cave Swallows and other "reverse migrants" on the
shores of the Chesapeake inspired me to do some local birding
today. Thought I would check out Violette's Lock to see if any of
those had wandered up the Potomac. Did not have any luck with
that, but did find the juvenile MOORHEN I reported earlier (first
November eBird record for the County) at Hughes Hollow. The water
was quite high there, and the bird was hugging close to the shores
of the small island on the left. Also ran into Jonathan Alderfer
who was just doing some casual birding.
There was also a CACKLING GOOSE at Triadelphia Res.--with a small
flock of Canadas near the dam, an overflight of 250 TUNDRA SWANS
very high in the sky, and 14 AMERICAN PIPITS at Summit Hall Turf Farm.
Good birding!
