Hi Everyone, I was able to view the Shrike at the Irvine Nature Center from 1:15 to 4 pm this evening ( good luck Nico , Thanks Tim ). First seen in the row of trees as reported to the left of the Gazebo. I walked down to the middle of the field to get a view of the whole row of trees from one spot. Saw the bird within few minutes about halfway down the treeline. It popped out from low limbs and rustled a bit on the ground then back up to the low area of the trees. stayed low in the trees and on the ground moving up the treeline toward the gazebo till it got to the first corner where the bluebird houses are. spent some time around the brushy area there . after 45 minutes of viewing it disappeared . Sandra Farkas (life bird for her too ) arrived and we went to the back side of same row of trees and after about half hour Sandra spotted it almost at the end of the row of trees in the troll tangle next to the evergreen bush . he sat on the top of the
troll tangle for about 10 minutes for good views and then did some more hopping from low in the tree to the ground . we were heading to the opening next to the troll tangle when it flew past us carrying a mouse . headed up the back side of same trees . within a few minute it popped out back where i first saw it frontside of same row of trees. . Do trolls aaahhh i mean Shrikes hide their food ??? I know it didnt eat the mouse that fast. Woohoo ! Life bird 239 !
