Hi Everyone,

I just got a call from Mike Burchett. He and Betsy Bangert are viewing the ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER right now (3:30 pm, 27 Nov 2010) at the same place that Joe Hanfman found it earlier this morning (near the entrance rd/parking lot for the Life of the Marsh Trail on Assateague).

Several of us were out there earlier and had failed to find the bird--good job, Mike and Betsy! And great find, Joe!

While Carol and I were searching for the flycatcher earlier today, we met Neil Rothschild who had photographed a (the?) NORTHERN SHRIKE at around 9 am today on Bayside Dr very close to the Life of the Marsh parking lot. A little later, Dan Small saw the shrike fly across the road, and soon Dan, Jim Brighton, Mike Ostrowski, Carol Gutberlet, and I were viewing the bird briefly in the Bayside Campground. I believe that Mike O. got a photo or two. This is the same area where Mike Walsh and I found a Northern Shrike during the Rarity Roundup two weeks ago.

Later at Rum Pointe, Jim Brighton, Dan Small, and Mike Ostrowski found a CAVE SWALLOW. Mike Walsh, Joe Hanfman, Carol, and I gave chase, but arrived too late.

So, plenty of excitement around Assateague today!

Have fun,

Ron Gutberlet
