Hi Bill,
You must've missed Jim's 11/20 MDOSPREY posting below:
Although i have normally retired my hummer feeder in OCT or NOV, i decided
to keep it maintained until early JAN this year due to the persuasive
argument posted to MD Osprey to that effect. So far this effort has been
without positive results in my case, but i've become curious to know how many
others are doing likewise.
If you want to e-mail me off list, stating your county and your
intentions, i.e. maintaining feeders until just after the new year as i will do, i
will compile a summary and post it to the list sometime after Christmas.
Although it won't be comprehensive as some (many) households will not have
access to MDOsprey, it might be interesting.

Just a reminder that this year is turning out to be an especially good
year for vagrant hummingbirds in the East. Please keep your feeders clean and
full! If you don't still have one up, consider adding one. In addition to
considering this a great idea in general, I am sending this by request of
one hummingbird host whose visitor might have moved on. Your yard might be
next. (But hopefully its mine!)
If you re-fill a feeder or add a new one this weekend, please reply
off-list to let me know you did so. I'd like to pass these notes on to a worried
hummingbird host who hopes to ensure lots of options for their guest while
its on the road south. |
