The Carroll County Bird Club field trip to Conowingo Dam saw lots of Bald
Eagles there as expected. Among the gulls were a few Bonaparte's. Later we
visited Swan Harbor Farm where the highlights were a Harrier, a Marsh Wren
(heard only), a small flock of Pipits flying over, and a Tree Sparrow (my
first of the fall).
In the afternoon at Piney Run which is currently crowded with waterfowl
the Red-necked Grebe was seen, distant toward the dam. Among the other birds
were at least 1,500 Canada Geese, a few Gadwall and Baldpate, 4 Canvasbacks,
many Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Lesser Scaup, many Hooded Mergansers, and about 40
Common Mergansers.
This morning the rising temperature has produced a dense fog.
