Walked the Luther Goldman birding trail today between (and among) showers this afternoon. With the exception of the lone coot in the south pool, all the action was on the north end.

The small group of hooded mergansers persists, joined today by two buffleheads and four shovelers. Ruddy duck numbers are down to fewer than a dozen; ditto for scaup (all the ones I could easily resolve were lessers). The resident mallard gang must have been hunkered down somewhere else. The flock of Canadas yielded no surprises, nor did the three dozen ring-billed gulls loafing on the thin ice.

In other College Park avian news, the rufous hummingbird continues in my back yard.
