Don't have much time to bird right now, but I escaped for an hour or so
yesterday afternoon and discovered there were no birds in the vicinity of
Calvert. After driving around for a while I finally spotted four bluebirds
(Wood Valley Road) and ten killdeer (Lombard Road). The latter were quite
colorful and close as they foraged in a tilled field. I saw distant geese
and blackbirds, too, but they were not landing anywhere near me.
When I got home, an adult cooper's hawk was lurking in a neighbor's tree
with its eyes on our bird feeder. Now I know who has been causing them to
panic every few days.
