Yesterday, Zach Baer and birded some areas around Jug Bay and Herrington Harbor. It was a rather slow day, but at Herrington Harbor we saw 21 Purple Sandpipers! This is new record count for the Western Shore of Maryland. I see from eBird that Tyler Bell saw them as well.
On the ice, just to the west of the jetties, a 1st cycle Iceland Gull was with about 50 Herring Gulls. This was a nice surprise since we had 0 gulls at Depot Pond despite 3 checks.
An adult Northern Gannet seen from Chesapeake Beach was only a surprise since I didn't have any last weekend from the bayshore of Talbot and Dorchester.
Good birding,
Matt Hafner
