My territory consisted of Davidsonville Park and surrounding areas.
The best birds were...

-1 Black-capped Chickadee: in a young pine grove, mixed in with a
large passerine flock, in the maintenance area of Renditions Golf
Course.
-12 American Pipits in the cornfield across from the golf course area.
-11 Savannah Sparrows: field near GC maintenance area.
-3 (likely 4) Eastern Meadowlark: same location.
-4 Red-breasted Nuthatches. One bird literally had me stunned. For
just a second, I thought it was a selasphorus hummingbird. The bird's
bill was long, straight and thin... nearly an inch long. I tried for
photos, but the bird ventured deep into the older pine woods.
-1 Eastern Phoebe. Not too wild, I know... but it is always nice to
have an avian reminder of the warmer months to come.
-1 Black Duck. Finding any dabblers was nice, considering all of the
ponds were frozen solid. 23 degrees at 6:30 AM today!
-1 American Kestrel, near it's usual spot.
-7 White-Crowned Sparrows near the Davidsonville Park n' Ride.
-3 Swamp Sparrows at Davidsonville Park.
-5 Red-Tails. 2 Red-Shoulders, 1 Coop, 2 Sharpies.
-2 Golden and 2 Ruby Crowned Kinglets.
-1 Killdeer on the ice at Davidsonville Park.

Brown Creepers, Hermit Thrushes, Field Sparrows, White-throats,
Eastern Towhees, Song Sparrows, Juncos, American and Fish Crows, Downy
& Hairy Wood, Bluebirds, Flickers, Blue Jays, Robins, Tufted Titmice,
Carolina Chickadees, Cedar Waxwings, Cardinals, Pileated Woodpeckers
and Goldfinches all appeared in good numbers.

Owls: I had an Eastern Screech trill back at me and fly over my head
early in the morning, but aside from that... nothing else. A bit
surprising, I thought. Maybe my Barred Owl impersonations have gotten
really bad?

No eagles observed today either. Maybe too much time in the woods?

Good Birding,
