Since Phil Davis didn't chime in, I will. Loggerhead Shrike is a Maryland review
species anywhere in the state. Northern Shrike is no longer reviewable.
Observers should try and get clear photos of this bird although written
documentation is just as important.

With Rob's photos posted and finally having some time to look at them.  I feel
much more confident in identifying the Pickering Creek bird as a Loggerhead
Shrike.  I've feel the overall shape of its "cute" rounded head, small and
broad-based bill, dark gray back, very thin and indistinct white line over the
eye (not always noticeable), shape of the black mask, and white throat
contrasting with a gray chest safely confirm the bird as a Loggerhead.

If anyone else disagrees or had different impressions in the field, please feel
free to comment and start a discussion.  I think there's a lot to be learned
here.

Good birding,
