Hi Everybody,
The Kent County Bird Club will launch 2011 with a half-day trip to
Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday the eighth of January.
Nancy and I will be at the Dollar General parking lot opposite the east
end of Spring St. on the side toward Philosopher's Terrace at 8:00 AM.
South county residents may arrange to meet us at the Eastern Neck
Narrows at about 8:30 AM. Eastern Neck Island is great for waterfowl
concentrations including hundreds of Tundra Swans, and scaup, geese, and
dabblers. It is likely that icy conditions have reduced numbers a bit
this year. However, the Island is also good for landbirds with its
abundance of hedgerows, woodlots, and marshland. We look forward to your
company for some mid-winter birding - dress warmly and bring snacks. The
current forecast is calling for mostly overcast weather with
temperatures near freezing.
Good birding,
