VA BIRDers and MDOspreyers,

Sunday, 2 Jan , the Ft Belvoir CBC was held. Weather was warm-ish in the
morning with intermittent drizzle/rain, turning colder at the end of the day
with steady rain. Based upon current reports to yours truly, a total of 110
species were found and most participants felt the weather "dampened" the
count. Highlights were:

For species found 0 to 5 times in the previous 20 counts (number of years
after name):

Cackling Goose 2, Mt Vernon area

Osprey 2, Mt Vernon, off the docks on the Potomac

Black-capped Chickadee 0, Mason Neck area (at the Great Marsh)

Lincoln Sparrow 3, Fort Belvoir (no other details available)

For species found 6 to 10 times in the previous 20 counts:

Lesser Yellowlegs 8, Great Marsh of Mason Neck

Lesser Black-backed Gull 10, off OBNWR and Veteran's Park, Potomac R,
Woodbridge

Many, many thanks to all the volunteer counters and Sector Leaders who
really pulled through to make a fine count despite Mother Nature throwing us
curve ball!

Happy New Year to All!
