It so happens that my wife and I were making a short visit to
Assateague Island on Wednesday, and we ran into Jim Stasz near the
entrance to the State Park around 1 p.m. Jim told us about having
seen the shrike and where he had seen it.
We then drove up and down the several roads that lead from the main
park road to the bay, including the road to the Bayside Campground,
where we traversed the camping loops and checked the marsh by the bay
on foot. We didn't see the shrike and had to settle for a zillion
Yellow-rumps, a few White-throated Sparrows and a Catbird. Sadly, we
had to leave after less than 30 minutes without making contact.
We didn't get to see it, but the shrike is bound to be out there somewhere.
