I had not been to Piney Run Park for a couple weeks to check out the
waterfowl so I decided to do so this afternoon before the winter count on
Saturday. The lake is at least 95% frozen but there is room for waterfowl.
Birds seen today:

Canada Goose - 2,000 packed together on the ice and water making it
difficult to find other species
Canada Goose X Greylag - 1, the big white-cheeked guy in the flock
Canada Goose X Blue Goose - 1 looking superficially like an adult Blue
Goose, size about medium Canada Goose size, white head irregularly spotted
with dark marks, neck appeared to be all-white, bill was mostly dark with
some paleness mixed in, mantle color like Canada Goose and not darker like a
Blue Goose, tertials edged with white like a Blue Goose. I considered a Snow
Goose intergrade and immatures of both color morphs but hybrid is my best
estimate.
Black Duck 16
Mallard 30
Canvasback 3
Bufflehead 3
Hooded Merganser 1 female
Common Merganser 1 female
Ruddy Duck 7
Bald Eagle 1 immature harassing everything
Coot 20
Ring-billed Gull 35
