Hi all,

Decided to cruise up to Sandy Pt. State Park, and see if I could locate the Iceland Gull
seen by other birders.  When I got there, no gulls on the beach, or anywhere so I decided to scope the bay for ducks.  I walked down to the beach, and set up the scope. By the small breaker of rocks I suddenly saw a drake Greater Scaup about 20 feet away, struggling to swim, and I immediately knew it was in trouble when I saw it tangled in fishing line, flapping around. I could NOT stand on that beach with a clear conscience looking at the birds I love and watching this duck drown. I'm talking to this duck like Joy Adamson to her lion Elsa.

First called Second Chance Wildlife Cntr., they gave the number for DNR, called DNR.
Waiting a few minutes, the Sandy Pt. Park ranger called me, and got the info. Volunteer called me from Second Chance called me back- will give number to someone. Texted Kevin G.- (he's a vol. firefighter-might have an idea)
To make a long story short, this guy Dave H arrived and with the Sandy Pt personel
(one guy waded in with a net) were able to rescue the scaup.  It had fishing line wrapped around its neck, wing, and legs.  It was soon on it's way to Tri State Wildlife Rehab.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
