They do sometimes show up as roadkill, when feeding on a carcass too close to the road. When in a feeding frenzy they are often a bit careless...

Yup - that's exactly what happened. I confirmed it with a co-worker who lives there. But that begs the question - where do you conveniently "find" a dead vulture (or two).
