This morning I again saw the 1st cycle GLAUCOUS GULL on the ice in the
Washington Channel adjacent to Hains Pt., DC. It looked like the same
bird first found last week. This was early in the morning (c.7:30am),
and all the gulls (c.1,200) took flight shortly after that. There was
ice in the channel at that time, but it was gone by the afternoon.

Shortly after that, I drove through Anacostia Park and saw 4 TURKEYS
roosting in a tree at Poplar Pt.

From there I went to the National Arboretum, where I led a field trip
for ANS. 7 intrepid birders birded around the Capitol Columns, the
Asian Garden and the River Trail. Between that a little scouting I did
before the walk, we found 36 species. Highlights were 2 FOX SPARROWS, 1
RING-NECKED DUCK (uncommon on the Anacostia), 2 BALD EAGLES (including a
beautiful adult that showed well), and a posing COOPER'S HAWK.

Good birding,
