Howdy all,

I have an update to the boardwalk rebuild at Piscataway Park in PG county.

The short: It's closed for birders and everyone else until June or July.

The long: The contractors were supposed to replace 70 of the 240 pilings 
along with decking, etc.. As they've worked they've found that 
practically the whole thing is rotted out. NPS has come up with the 
money for 200 (total) poles but it means the boardwalk will be off 
limits until June or July instead of April. Thankfully NPS came up with 
money or the whole thing could have been on indefinite hold! The 
contractors have also extended their safety fence all the way to the 
waterline because suicidal dum-dums insist they have a "right" to go on 
the boardwalk. (Someone hopped the fence again over the weekend anyway) 
The danger is very real. A 20 foot section of boardwalk suddenly 
collapsed while the guys were working last week. Luckily the contractor 
employee on that section wasn't seriously hurt.
