Four of us Baltimorons (John Dennehy, Nico Sarbanes, Joe Turner, & I) spent today in Queen Anne's and Kent Counties. We started with a huge flock of SNOW GEESE on Rolling Bridge Road just off of route 301. We did not find any special geese this morning but Nico found a ROSS'S GOOSE this afternoon right before two BALD EAGLES caused the entire flock to take off. (He did have time to take a photograph.)

We were at Chesapeake Farms from 8:45 - 9:25 and saw (and photographed) the GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW around 9:10. We then spent some time on Reese's Corner Road without seeing any species of note.

We drove on Kibler Road and saw the NORTHERN SHRIKE around noon. It flew with prey into a cedar and from there to the top of one of the trees on the entrance lane signed Grasslands Plantation.

Most of the rest of the day was devoted to a fruitless search for Lapland Longspurs, including a foray into Caroline County. We saw hundreds of HORNED LARKS, many many SAVANNAH SPARROWS, and many AMERICAN PIPITS, but no longspurs. A MERLIN on a utility pole on route 305 just north of route 301 was a bonus, as was a PEREGRINE FALCON on Kent Island on the way home.
