Hey everyone-
After spending close to five hours scouring back roads on the Eastern Shore for
Longspurs, I was happy to drive a half-hour down the road to Underwood Rd. this
morning and see two Lapland Longspurs in with the Horned Larks at around 9:15
am. Also, on the way to the longspur spot, I had two American Pipits along Old
Frederick Rd with some savannah sparrows.
At Underwood Rd., I met up with Jim Stasz and Ed Boyd, and together we headed
over to Florence Rd. to enjoy the large Rusty Blackbird flock, and where a
Black-Capped Chickadee was a major bonus.
From Florence Rd., I headed off to Frederick to try my luck at seeing the
White-Winged Dove. After about an hour and a half of dove-less watching, the
White-Winged Dove appeared with about 40 Mourning Doves at around 1:30pm. I
never saw it drop down to the feeder, I only saw it perched in one of the pines
behind the house.
On the way home from Frederick, I stopped back at Underwood Rd. around 3:50pm in
hopes of getting a better photo of one of the Longspurs. There was one Longspur
still present, and, although the flock got up and disappeared for about ten
minutes, it returned promptly to the same field.
Photos from the last two days' trips (Golden-Crowned Sparrow, Ross's Goose,
Rusty Blackbird, etc.), along with photos from a recent trip to Southern
Florida, are up at:
