Hi all,
Anna Urciolo and I went out to see if we could find some birds that have been seen recently. Highlights included:
Port Deposit, Cecil Co, MD
1 Red-necked Grebe
1 Pied-billed Grebe
6 Red-breasted Merganser

Paper Mill Flats, Baltimore Co., MD
3 Tundra Swan
2 Gadwall
25 American Wigeon
30 American Black Duck
35 Green-winged Teal
2 Ring-necked Duck
20 Ring-billed Gull
No Black-headed Gull, but it was seen about 30 minutes after we left.
This was our first trip to Paper Mill Flats and we took the wrong path out to the water. As I tried to get closer to the stream, my boots sank into the mud, heels deeper than toes. This threw me off balance and I sat down in the mud. I was very lucky because Jeff Culler was on the proper side and came over to help. He and Anna managed to get me upright (but covered in mud). We found some plastic to cover the seat in Anna's car and proceeded to:
Piney Run Park, Carroll Co, MD
18 American Wigeon
6 Canvasback
34 Redhead
2 Ring-necked Duck
2 Bufflehead
12 Common Merganser

It was a nice day - overcast, but almost no wind. It took two washer cycles to bring my clothes back to their original color.
Thanks so very much, Jeff. Howard County birders rock!
