Jon Ranson and I were at Greenbury Point last night, on the path near a pond. Huge amounts of waterfowl coming in at dusk, mostly Canada Geese and Mallard, but undoubtedly other species as well. I was birding by ear at that point (it was too dark and they were behind phragmites)!!

Most notably we had 4-5 (maybe more!) peenting woodcock, and heard at least 4 flight displays. Missed out on the view of flying birds, though - we had the fading sun behind us.

The peenting started at 6:13, and we left by 6:45.

onight starting at 6:11 pm, Amanda and I had at least three different Am.
oodcock peenting and displaying at the previously reported location at
reenbury Point in Annapolis, near the visitors center. We had one land between
0 - 100 ft of us just off the dirt path and enjoyed watching a couple of them
lying up, circling around and spiraling back down making their utterly
mplausible wing sounds. We also had some nice sillouette views against the
ading western sky with the long bill and whirring wings - pretty cool. We left
t about 6:30.

topped by North Beach earlier in the day and saw a nice assortemnt of
aterfowl, enjoying some good close looks at Common Goldeneye, Greater Scaup,
uffleheasds, Canvasbacks, and Horned Grebes. As was mentioned in a recent post,
he Horned Grebe numbers have really jumped up; we had between 2 and 3 dozen
long the town boardwalk, some at very close range - one was almost in breeding
lumage, which was nice; the first one I've seen in these colors this year.
