Tonight starting at 6:11 pm, Amanda and I had at least three different Am. Woodcock peenting and displaying at the previously reported location at Greenbury Point in Annapolis, near the visitors center. We had one land between 50 - 100 ft of us just off the dirt path and enjoyed watching a couple of them flying up, circling around and spiraling back down making their utterly implausible wing sounds. We also had some nice sillouette views against the fading western sky with the long bill and whirring wings - pretty cool. We left at about 6:30.

Stopped by North Beach earlier in the day and saw a nice assortemnt of waterfowl, enjoying some good close looks at Common Goldeneye, Greater Scaup, Buffleheasds, Canvasbacks, and Horned Grebes. As was mentioned in a recent post, the Horned Grebe numbers have really jumped up; we had between 2 and 3 dozen along the town boardwalk, some at very close range - one was almost in breeding plumage, which was nice; the first one I've seen in these colors this year.

Good Birding,
