Lynette Fullerton and I spend the afternoon Saturday (2/26) and early
morning Sunday (2/27) in the Ocean City area.

On the way east Saturday afternoon, we found a flock of 52 Wild Turkeys
in a field on the south side of route 50 just east of Berlin.

Saturday's highlights at the inlet include an adult male Common Eider
with four brown birds that we never saw well enough to identify, and a
single White-winged Scoter mixed in the large dark-winged scoter flock.
No Harlequins and no Gannets. We watched a group of 9 Harbor Seals from
the west end of Sixth street. Just before sunset, we walked the the
life of the marsh trail on Assateague where the Northern Shrike put on a
good, but distant show. While waiting for the next act, which didn't
occur until Sunday morning, we were entertained by a Merlin and an
American Bittern.

Sunday morning started at the Verrazano Bridge with singles of
Peregrine, Goldeneye and Horned Grebe. The next two hours were spent on
the north end of the island where only event of note was a Gannet
flight. All the birds were heading south, none were feeding, most if
not all were adults and many were just off shore. I counted close to
100 birds with only a very small fraction of our time devoted to sea
watching. The total must have been several times what we saw. A nice
end to our visit.
