The morning showers stopped long enough for me to take a quick scan of Schoolhouse Pond before work today. A flock of 16 Lesser Scaup was present on the pond. The birds were clustered together in a tight group. I watched them for about five minutes before they all picked up and flew towards the Patuxent. I believe that this is my high count for Lesser Scaup at the pond as usually I get single birds or a handful at most. Also present were 2 Ring-necked Ducks, which flew in as I watched, 10 Northern Shovelers, 2 Green-winged Teal, and small numbers of Mallards and Canada Geese. The Green-winged Teal have been present for much of the past week.
