Hi Everybody:
I spent Sunday (2/27) in western MD. first in Washington County and then in Allegany County looking for ducks that have begun moving. I started north of Blairs Valley Lake (Indian Springs WMA) before daylight and heard at least 3 American Woodcocks "Peenting" and then displaying. The lake itself at first daylight had more fisherman (6) on the edges than ducks (0).

I next went to Big Pool and scanned the lake accessing off of the Rail Trail. Waterfowl here:

Pied- billed Grebe (1)
Canada Goose (265)
Tundra Swan (33)
Mallard (28)
Gadwall (18)
A. Wigeon (2)
REDHEAD (5)
Hooded Merganser (6)
Common Merganser (51)
Bufflehead (1)

McCoy's Ferry Road
There were 2 Swamp Sparrows singing in the marsh on the north side of the road on the drive in. No ducks on the river but it did not help that two motorboats went cruising by as I arrived.

Gruber Road
White-crowned Sparrow (1)

Dam # 5 Rd.
Wild Turkey (15)
At the dam itself were 8 Ring-necked Ducks

Little Pool
Ring-necked Ducks (7)
Lesser Scaup (1 male)
Greater Scaup (2 a pair)
Hooded Merganser (34)
REDHEAD (9)
Canvas back (1 female)

Allegany County

Rocky Gap St. Pk.
Green-winged Teal (2)
Hooded Mergansers (3)

Mason Road Pond
Hooded Mergansers (24)
Bufflehead (1)

Terminus in Cumberland: There were absolutely no ducks; I did count 85 Ring-billed Gulls sitting on the water and flying around in the vicinity

I drove around some of the farm roads north of Frostburg and saw 2 AMERICAN TREE SpARROWS on Mile Lane.

Pinto Road Pond
Mallard (4)
Wood Duck (6)
Ring-necked Duck (1)

I finished up at a marsh south of Cresaptown and heard at least 2 American Woodcocks displaying before heading home. It was a delightful day to be out and take advantage of the warm weather.
