Kathy Calvert, Mike Welch, and I spent a very enjoyable day birding
western Maryland Sunday focusing on waterfowl. Despite windy conditions
throughout the day and unexpectedly cold temps, we had a few highlights
including LONG-TAILED DUCK and AMERICAN TREE SPARROW at Rocky Gap State
Park, RUSTY BLACKBIRD at Old Legislative Road, and BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
another TREE SPARROW, and WOODCOCK at the Pinto Wetland Area near Near
McKenzie Tower Rd SW (thanks to Jim Green for providing directions for
the Woodcock!). Every body of water we visited had some open water.
