Went down to the lake this AM and watched a pair of WOOD DUCKS fly over me
and land somewhere at the left end of the lake. I later found the male
standing on a log but his girlfriend was nowhere visible.

I counted a raft of HOODED MERGS - ALL FEMALE - and got 17 of them. The lone
male that was there yesterday was missing. Either he couldn't stand the
attention or the girls ganged up on him and, well, that's why he's missing.

    While I was checking them out I heard a squawk behind me, turned and
spotted not 1  but 2 RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS in a tree. Their positioning was
somewhat odd. He was on top and she was on the bottom and then I recalled
something from a biology book in high school and woops. Yes folks, they done
everything but smoke cigarettes afterward. Goes to show they aren't as dumb
as humans.
    At least I know we'll have little RSHA'a in the neighborhood this year.
Wonder if the adults ever tell the kids what their ABA abbreviations are.
