Thanks to those who responded to yesterday's request for information on the Lapidum/Port Deposit Little Gulls. After much searching and swapping sides of the river in an attempt to get the best views of the small gulls, Josh Berman and I finally got great looks at a single Little Gull on the Port Deposit side of river fairly close to shore around 2:30. We were on the fishing pier upstream from the playground and the Little Gull ended up alighting on the river near the end of the breakwater. We got to watch the bird both on the wing and on the water in close proximity to Bonnies for a good length of time. The extent of black on the back of the bird's head, which could be easily seen when the bird was on the water, was quite distinctive.

Josh also picked out a fly-by adult Lesser Black-backed Gull from the pier. Given that it was on the wing, we didn't have a lot of time to study it, but it was fairly close to shore and the slate-gray mantle clearly distinguished the bird from the many Great Black-backed Gulls in the immediate vicinity. We were also able to make out the yellow feet when the bird banked.

Finally, at one point when we were viewing the river from Lapidum Landing we had roughly 30 Tree Swallows fly together down river.
