Perhaps not post-worthy, but fun. We decided to go on a brief equinox walk yesterday (Sunday) evening at the ACLT Port Republic trails, the equinox occurring at 7:21. It was quiet, but at about 7:30 we heard an AMERICAN WOODCOCK peenting and were able to see it further down the trail behind weeds, not a bad view. We watched as it took off to display, making a couple of large circles over the field, and we waited to see where it would land. It came down about 4' from where Joe was standing! Needless to say, it didn't loiter, and the camera hadn't come along anyway, but it was about as close an encounter as we could have hoped for.
