The Ross's Goose flew in to Morgantown at 10:05 with Canada Geese. Currently watching it.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] Ross's Goose in Charles Co; Blue-winged Teal in St Mary's Co--3/26/2011

Hi Everyone,

Jim Green and I birded southern MD today and had some nice surprises. The bird of the day came in the afternoon, in Morgantown in Charles County. The flock of Canada Geese by the small pond here contained a single, adult Ross's Goose! We got photos of what may be the first record of this species in Charles Co. We called George Jett, and he and Gwen were able to come down to see the bird. George got additional photos, which are surely an upgrade from the documentation shots that I took.

Earlier in the afternoon we stopped at Beauvue Ponds in St Mary's County, hoping for Green-winged Teal. We found 12 of them--with a bonus of 2 Blue-winged Teal mixed in. Quite a day!

Have fun,
