Hi everyone,

I birded Hain's Point by bike this morning. After picking through the many Horned grebes found there, for nearly a month, I am 95% sure I finally found an Eared Grebe!

From my field notes:

"Small grebe with relatively steep forehead, more pointed, thinner bill than other grebes. Dark color on face extended below eye. Neck grayish. Ruled out Horned grebe mainly due to shape and coloring. Crown peak above eye. bird seen close in on Washington Channel (unfortunately, my point n’ shot camera is broken - Damn!)."

I couldn't relocate it after returning around 2:30 pm - hopefully someone can!

Additionally, the Black-capped Chickadee is still at the second restroom on the west side of the park. I had a palm pilot with a BC Chickadee call loaded, so I played it and the bird called back with the "sad" BC Chickadee song.

Bald Eagles are on the move, and I also picked up 3 very cooperative Wilson Snipe at Gravely Point. I added them to my DC list as they flew across the water and eventually out into the Potomac.

Good Birdibg!
