Chesapeake Audubon conducted a field trip this morning (led by Ruth Bergstrom) at Harford Glen. Very enjoyable, moderate activity overall. Light rain or drizzle half the time, just a tad chilly, very muddy from flooding. In addition to some nice birds, we enjoyed a closeup of an active and chubby beaver--as well as the beginnings of interesting plants and flowers. The best bird of the day was a Merlin flying right overhead, across the marsh, and to the trees.
Some of the nice birds:
Merlin
Hooded Mergs (several male and female)
Gadwall (lots)
Green-Winged Teal (numbers)
Coot (1)
Wood Duck (half dozen)
Great Egret (1)
Red-Shouldered Hawk (1 or 2)
Flicker (several)
Pileated (couple three)
Phoebe (3-4)
Barn Swallow (several)
Kingfisher (1 or 2)
Brown Creeper (4)
Golden-Crowned Kinglet (8+)
Yellow-Rumped Warbler (6+)
Swamp Sparrow (8+, very handsome)
Towhee
All Good Birding,
