Today (5 April) between 1245 and 1440 hours I observed the following at Riley's Lock, along the towpath within 100 meters in each direction from the end of Riley's Lock Road:

5 Horned grebe
27 Double-crested cormorant
3 Great blue heron
3 Mallard
12 Greater scaup
3 Bufflehead
4 Common merganser
4 Turkey vulture
2 Black vulture
1 Merlin,adult male seen well at close range as it moved through the brush
   between towpath and river just east of the parking area
4 Ring-billed gull
1 Pileated woodpecker
2 Red-bellied woodpecker
1 Downy woodpecker
8 E. phoebe
10+ Tree swallow
14 Rough-winged swallow
4 Barn swallow
20+ Swallow sp?
5 Am. crow
6 Fish crow
1 White-br. nuthatch
1 Brown creeper
2 Carolina wren
1 Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) warbler
1 Yellow-throated warbler
1 Pine warbler
15 Palm warbler
18 Dk-eyed junco
3 Chipping sparrow
2 Fox sparrow
3 Song sparrow
