Highlights from this morning at Schoolhouse Pond included 4 flyover Common Loons and 2 "Yellow" Palm Warblers. The loons allowed good flyover views as they were not too high and directly over the pond, while the Palm Warblers were low in the understory towards the rear of the pond. Waterfowl included the usual Mallards and Canada Geese, plus 8 Wood Ducks, 6 Green-winged Teal, and 2 Blue-winged Teal. Shorebirds included 12 Wilson's Snipe, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 1 Greater Yellowlegs. Overhead there were also 4 Osprey and 2 Bald Eagles (1 adult and 1 immature). Gulls/terns consisted of 76 Ring-billed Gulls, 124 Herring Gulls, 53 Laughing Gulls, and 1 Caspian Tern. A Ruby-crowned Kinglet continues to sing low in the vegetation near the residential townhouses. The number of species for my morning walk was 44, so my morning total is gradually increasing as spring progresses.
