Hi all,

Caspian Terns have been prevalent at Lake Artemesia in College Park for the
last week, with 5 actively feeding yesterday evening (4/10) and a whopping
11 recorded there tonight at 7:15. Four were again feeding over the lake
when a group of 7 flew in coming from the southeast. As dusk approached all
birds quickly disappeared - leaving me to wonder where these birds are
roosting. If anyone can venture a guess, I would love to know just to
satisfy my own curiosity.

Also of interest - yesterday while at Camden Yards to take in a game I was
astounded to watch as an American Kestrel landed not fifteen feet from 2010
AL MVP Josh Hamilton out in left field. Over the course of the next 5
innings, I watched in amazement as the bird hawked insects from the foul
pole, repeatedly landing on the field in the middle of play! I eventually
lost sight of the bird, but it was quite a memorable sighting of an
extraordinarily resilient species. Earlier this spring I located another
urban Kestrel in downtown Columbia Heights in DC, and continue to see it
perched atop a building at the corner of 15th and Columbia Rd. NW as I walk
home from work. Seeing these birds thrive in an urban environment is an easy
way to brighten your day.

Cheers,

Spencer Galen
