Hi all, 

I just returned from some after-work birding along the potomac and wanted to post a few quick notes. Highlight was six drake SURF SCOTERS seen from Violette's Lock.  Also present on the river were greater and lesser scaup, red-breasted and common mergansers, bufflehead, gadwall, horned grebes, numerous cormorants, 3 swallow sp (barn, roughwinged, tree) and a lone canvasback. 

At Hughes Hollow 15 northern shovelers were grouped together behind the island (apparently a new county ebird high count). Also picked up a few FOY with a gray catbird, and green herons (2). 

On my way out there earlier this afternoon I had 2 purple finches at the locust grove nature center feeders (part of cabin john park off democracy ave). Another county FOY.
