I'm posting this for Chris Swarth, Director of the Sanctuary:

On April 14 I observed an American Bittern in a cattail stand at Jug
Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Anne Arundel County. I had a brief, but
excellent, look as it flushed from the edge of the RR Bed and flew low
into a nearby cattail stand. Clearly saw the plumage characteristics:
brown wings with broad darker gray/brown flight feathers. Overall
plumage was all brown in general and the bird was about the size of a
snowy egret though heavier. Trailing legs of moderate length. Not an
immature night-heron.
