I've been looking for the Yellow Crowned Night Herons to return to some of their former nest areas between Wayne and Maple, but so far no sign of them there--some of the former nest trees have come down, and around Piney Branch there is a lot of construction going on now. Maybe next year! I'm glad of the ones further up, by the golf course. Anyway, in the course of looking for them I have also been asking people out walking if they had seen them, and today that paid off with a different bird--a black crowned down near Carroll. I went down to see it, since I didn't have one yet this year. It was in a tree over the stream just after Old Carroll, where the road is closed on Sundays, between the two footbridges. Easy to see even driving by. Nice.
