I also went on one of the walks to Bacon Ridge Natural Area during their "Walk for the Woods." A guided hike lead by Dan Haas at 7 am on Sunday produced many FOY birds for me and Amanda including 8 warbler species, most notably great looks at a singing male Hooded Warbler. We also had Common Yellowthroat, Pine Warbler, Northern Parula, multiple Black-and-white Warblers, Louisiana Waterthrush, several Palm Warbler, and several Yellow-rumped Warblers. We had 2 Rusty Blackbirds in a wetland that used to be a beaver dam. After the hike we enjoyed a Vesper Sparrow that Dan had found a few days earlier. This was at the waste water treatment ponds. The ponds also had a lot of Tree, Barn, N. Rough-winged, and a few Bank Swallows, as well as a few Chimney Swifts. We flushed a Snipe and were harried by nesting Killdeer and Canada Geese on nests with eggs. Beautiful weather and a great morning of birding. Full list below.

Side note - migrants moving through our yard in Eastport (Annapolis) the last few days include our first Ruby-throated Hummingbird (afternoon of 4/17/11), 3 Field Sparrows, Brown Thrasher, a Common Yellowthroat, and a Hermit Thrush. Chimney Swifts are being seen more frequently as well and I noted a Fish Crow with nesting material this morning. Grackles and Robins nesting now. I found 2 small white eggs broken on the ground last weekend, not sure what they were from. Tonight on a short walk around the neighborhood we had a pair of Green Herons, our FOY, as well as a Black Crowned Night Heron on a street paralleling Back Creek.

Good Birding,
