I was there with a friend and we saw Wallace part of the time this morning. Wallace mentioned he has no computer at the moment and asked if I could post. There was a lot of singing early, and for about an hour we had a good amount of bird activity considering the low temps (45-47 degrees). Nothing unexpected was found, but we had 47 spp. including a nice view of a Barred Owl; 7 warbler sp; plus 5 woodpecker and 5 sparrow sp., 3 thrushes, and 2 each of flycatchers, vireos, and orioles. Low diversity overall, but somewhat birdier than expected given a total lack of insect activity. Between the Ridge and Maintenance Yard, we had Northern Parula 4, Yellow-rumped W 26, Pine W 1, Yellow Palm 4, B&W W 1, and C Yellowthroat 1. One each of BH Vireo, Yellow-throated V, Baltimore O and Orchard O. We saw no noteworthy fly-overs. There were many Goldfinches (50+), which were very actively feeding on seeds and singing.
Better luck tomorrow when the temps are milder?
