Hi Everybody: I birded a few locations in western Montgomery County in the rain Friday evening after work. The first location I went to was the flooded field on Sugarland Road near Montivideo Rd. Dave C's Cattle Egret was long gone. I did have 8 WILSON'S SNIPE hunkered down in the corn stubble. They were inactive for the most part and blended in very effectively with their surroundings.

My last stop was at Hughes Hollow. I walked out the main dike and as I was returning to the car I heard a grunting-like sound in the large impoundment to the west. The source of the vocalization was a female HOODED MERGANSER with 11 DOWNY CHICKS on mama's heel as she swam away from me.
