I just had a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak stop by my platform feeder on my back deck, and leisurely nibble at some black oil sunflower seeds. He was in bright sunlight and looked like fresh feather - very, very flashy and just amazingly beautiful. The feeder is only about 10 feet from the kitchen window, so the view was great.

Unfortunately, I was transfixed by the bird, first ever at my feeder and a life bird for me - and called my daughter to see rather than go get a camera. I'm hoping he comes back... but thrilled to see him at all!

Now, if I neglect to mow my dog-hole filled back yard, which is already growing an amazing thickness of grass, do you think some Bobolink will stop by?
