I saw an adult Mississippi Kite flying SE to NW over the end of Brush Run (street) in east Columbia today (5/2), at approximately 10:45 AM. The tail and wings appeared black and the body was silvery gray. The size was between a sharpshin and Cooper's hawks with long, slender wings bent at wrists and thin fairly long tail. I observed it gliding but not soaring or flapping.
Other birds in the area were Parula, Blackpoll, Yellow-rumped Warblers, a male Scarlet Tanager and a Baltimore Oriole.
