Belated Report from Sunday AM -Patuxent River Park--Wooten's Landing

Had a great single hour of birding at Wootens Landing, AA-County Sunday morning.  The calm winds and cool, overcast weather were lovely, affording me some opportunities to catch up on my MD year list after a long hiatus in April.  Had to get back to gardening and yard work, playing catch-up after my absence, but throughout the day, several FOY's kept me entertained, including a new yard-first, a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK singing in the gums and oaks around my raised beds.  Other yard firsts for the year included YELLOW WARBLER and BLACKPOLL WARBLER.

Canada Goose - Branta canadensis     4     Two on trail and two on the water
Great Blue Heron - Ardea herodias     1     One flushed from marshes near lookout platform, west side of trail.
Turkey Vulture - Cathartes aura     2     Flyovers, soaring to the east.
Osprey - Pandion haliaetus     2     One perched and one in flight.
Belted Kingfisher - Megaceryle alcyon     1     Heard near Pax river.
Red-bellied Woodpecker - Melanerpes carolinus     2
Northern Flicker - Colaptes auratus     1     Distant, near woodland at North end.
Pileated Woodpecker - Dryocopus pileatus     1     Heard across the River on PG side.
White-eyed Vireo - Vireo griseus     4     Low estimate, probably many more throughout.  One pair was very visible near the Orchard Oriole spot where the trail first enters the second growth on both sides before platform.
Yellow-throated Vireo - Vireo flavifrons     1     One near Pax River by Pump station. Also briefly heard what might have been Northern Waterthrush in this area, but was not able to confirm, reported by Stan Arnold earlier in the morning.

Barn Swallow - Hirundo rustica     1     One flyover near platform on return trip.

Eastern Bluebird - Sialia sialis     2     One near entrance, the other much farther down trail on footpath itself.

Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle) - Dendroica coronata coronata     1

American Redstart - Setophaga ruticilla     4     Several, especially near Pax River behind pump station.  Probably a low count.
Prothonotary Warbler - Protonotaria citrea     4     At one point heard and/or saw four individuals at the same time.

Yellow-breasted Chat - Icteria virens     5     Probably a low count, as many were vocalizing and displaying throughout the park.
Eastern Towhee - Pipilo erythrophthalmus     3
Chipping Sparrow - Spizella passerina     2     Two heard near entrance two park.
Savannah Sparrow - Passerculus sandwichensis     1     One seen just beyond pump station perching in reeds adjacent to trail.  No song sparrows or White-throateds present, noteably.
Swamp Sparrow - Melospiza georgiana     1     Only one individual heard.

Blue Grosbeak - Passerina caerulea     1     Seen in scrubby Sweetgum beyond lookout deck.
Red-winged Blackbird - Agelaius phoeniceus     24

Brown-headed Cowbird - Molothrus ater     2
Orchard Oriole - Icterus spurius     3     All three singers, visual age ID on two only.  In their usual locations, tree islands in marsh, as well as the corner second growth where trail goes between trees before lookout deck.
