Hi All,
Today I went over to Rock Creek Cementary (roughly North Capitol St. and Allison St. NW). I was surpirsed by the diversity of birds (Warblers - AMERICAN REDSTART, , NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW WARBLER, etc., Tanagers, Orioles, etc.) especially considering the hour (2:30pm). The cementary is DC's oldest and has some colonial period headstones and a grove of ancient oaks on a ridge. But what really caught my eye was a small water feature that was drawing these canopy loving birds down to the ground. In the middle of the cementary (a little NW of the small pond) is a leaky water faucet. I got great views of YELLOW WARBLER, SCARLET TANAGER, and BALTIMORE ORIOLES bathing in the lawn.
If anyone is looking for a good opportunity to get some great shots, Rock Creek Cementary should not be missed.
Jason Berry
P.S. The Cementary also yieled my FOY WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW after getting a FOY PROTHONATORY WARBLER in upper Rock Creek park!
